问题: 第一个genius指的是？英语
大括号里面的可以不作深入研究，只是为了句子的完整帖上来的。
Halley had genius to recognise the even great mathematical genius of Newton, ｛to urge him to write the Principia Mathematica（《自然哲学的数学原理》）, and then pay for the costs of publication out of his own pocket because the Royal Society was currently broke...｝
我想问的是，第一个genius表达的是什么意思？
是指mathematical genius（数学天才）呢，还是指能够recognise Newton's...的天才。
如果是前者，好像意思不太对劲。
如果是后者，为什么要写even greater呢？直接用great就可以了吧。反正前后两个genius指的又不是同一个意思。
解答:
第一个genius是指Halley具有识别更伟大的数学天才的能力.
这里用的比较级,是因为Halley当然也是数学天才,但是没牛顿厉害.
