She could not help thinking of a story about a man who_______ and robbed when he went to answer the door at night.
A.had been attacked B.would be attacked
C.has been attacked D.was being attacked
He immediately remembered the story he had read about a man (who had been attacked and robbed) when he went to answer the door at night. ------------------其中when he went to answer the door at night其实是主句的时间状语从句,而非who从句的状语从句。
Going for a short walk does more than________calories. Like most exercise, it also cuts your appetite.
-------------------------------------------------------
Going for a short walk does (more than) burn calories,而不是传统的比较用法了。
Step 3 Language Points:
1. Newspapers and other media do more than simply record what happens.
e.g. Do remember to remind me to return the book I borrowed from you.
e.g. She’s more than a teacher to us.
The boy more than smiled but laughed.
We are more than pleased with the results.
He has more than 300 pictures.
This room is three time larger than that one.
The old man is two times older than I am.
That is more than I can tell.
Mr Price, the antique dealer, lived alone in a small flat above his shop. Because of the valuable articles which he kept, he was afraid that one night someone would break in and rob him. He had locks put on all the doors. Also, he had a cupboard made specially for keeping his valuable articles. But in spite of all these precautions, he never felt safe.
One night, he found that he had earned two thousand pounds that day, which was an exceptionally large sum. He thought of taking it to his son's house where there was a small safe, but it was a foggy evening and his son lived on the other side of the town. In the end he took the money home and put it in his wardrobe. Then, he locked it.
After midnight before he fell asleep, he was awoken by the long ringing of the shop doorbell. He sat up in bed. Could he have been dreaming? Surely, he thought no one could want to see him this hour of the night. He immediately remembered the story he had read about a man who had been attacked and robbed when he went to answer the door at night. The door bell rang again and again, more persistently each time.
Mr Price got out of bed and went across to the window. It was a policeman. "Sorry to disturb you, sir," said the policeman, "but there is a light on in your shop. I think you have forgotten to turn (it) off".
